Avenue Magazine: The Life and Legacy of Katie Ohe and Harry Kiyooka

by keolafson

Published in: Avenue Calgary, February 2016

Katie Ohe and Harry Kiyooka are incredible. They’ve dedicated their lives to art — they are turning their home into the Kiyooka Ohe Art Centre — and have helped shape the art scene provincially, nationally and internationally. They are also two of the warmest people I’ve ever met. They welcomed me into their home as if I was an old friend. We sat around their kitchen table all afternoon, chatting about their lives, their friends and their artwork, drinking green tea. They led me through their home and their studios, pointing out their favourite art pieces and explaining how the KOAC will function when it’s complete. It was such an honour to write this piece and learn more about them.
